Australian Made

Our Volvo and Mack trucks are locally manufactured at our production facility in Wacol, QLD. Custom built by our people for the Australian market, we also export our Volvo and Mack trucks to New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. 

 

We leverage global common architecture and shared technology to design trucks that boast the latest innovations, whilst being built in Brisbane to withstand the unique Australian climate and operating conditions.

 

We are Australia’s largest heavy vehicle manufacturing powerhouse and are the sole truck manufacturer to have been awarded the prestigious Australian Made certification for all Mack trucks and some of our Volvo trucks; we support local suppliers and enable our customers to be leaders in their field.  

 

Our manufacturing team comprises over 800 colleagues, representing over 20 different nationalities. Our plant meets ISO 9001/14001 standards with well-established Quality and Environmental Management Systems in place.

      VGA Demonstrates Commitment to Compliance

      In 2023, VGA identified and voluntarily reported potential non compliances with the timing of entry of vehicles manufactured by VGA onto the newly introduced Register of Approved Vehicles. Reflecting its strong commitment to compliance, VGA has offered an enforceable undertaking to the Department by which it has committed to perform a review of its systems and processes in the wake of the transition to the Road Vehicle Standards Act to ensure no further non-compliances.

    • The first Volvo FH Electric sold in Australia has been delivered to Brisbane Qld based Followmont Transport.

    • New regulatory changes allow Volvo Group to make the first interstate electric truck journey from Brisbane to ACT. Volvo Group finishes Australia’s longest ever journey in an electric truck. On 6 and 7 November, Volvo Group’s FH Electric drove a record-breaking 1,185 kilometres from Brisbane to Canberra.

    • Volvo Group has unveiled Australia’s first zero-emissions logistics vehicle, supplied to the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA), at the Australasian Fire and Authorities (AFAC) conference, the region’s largest emergency management conference and exhibition.

    • Volvo Group Australia is pleased to announce significant appointments to its Executive Leadership Team, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing relationships with government and industry stakeholders.

    • CMV Truck & Bus continues its transformation journey with the second CMV site becoming a fully certified Volvo Trucks Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer. The group is proud to announce that their Clayton dealership is now a fully certified Volvo Trucks EV Dealer, along with their purposebuilt Derrimut dealership which was certified late last year.

    • As a part of a scheduled visit by members of the Swedish royal family to Canberra this week, Australian National University hosted the panel discussion event Electrification in Sweden and Australia.

    • Australian express freight giant, Team Global Express has placed the largest order to date globally for Volvo medium duty electric and the largest order of electric trucks in Australia so far.

    • Volvo Group Australia has just marked 5 decades of building trucks in Australia this week with the handover of 2 special trucks to key customers. The keys to a 50-year branded Volvo FH700XXL were handed over to Scott and Regina Harvey at the event while Nathan Stephens of Ipswich based JR Stephens also took delivery of a 50-year themed Mack Anthem.

    Iron women

    In partnership with Wodonga TAFE, Volvo Trucks Australia has launched "Iron Women," a pioneering driver training and licensing initiative tailored for women. This program offers comprehensive vocational training and heavy vehicle licensing. The initiative aims to address the industry's shortage of skilled drivers, challenge stereotypes, and showcase the rewarding aspects of a career in road transport. The pilot program involves 11 candidates from five transport companies across three states.

    Solar buddy

    With nearly 10% of the global population affected by energy poverty, Volvo Group Australia has partnered with international children's charity, Solar Buddy. Founded by Simon Doble, Solar Buddy operates in 54 countries to make a meaningful impact by providing light and energy, emphasizing the commitment to shaping a brighter world.

    Healthy heads in trucks & sheds

    To support the mental health of people in the transport industry, Volvo Group Australia has partnered with not-for-profit organisation Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds. The charitable foundation aims to establish and improve outcomes in areas relating to psychological safety and physical wellbeing, across the road transport, warehousing and logistics industries in Australia through various initiatives such as nutrition programs, toolbox talks, road shows and tailored training.

    St. John eye van

    UD Trucks Australia partners with St John Ambulance Queensland to power the St John Eye Van, expanding its vital eye health services in regional Queensland. Celebrating 140 years of service, St John's Ambulance Eye Van is the world's first, providing world-class ophthalmology services to rural and remote communities. With UD Trucks' support, the UD Quon GK 4x2 prime mover facilitates the clinic's journey, treating over 7000 people since 2013. The initiative addresses preventable blindness among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with diabetes, exemplifying UD Trucks' commitment to a Better Life through impactful partnerships.

     

    Byron Bay mobile wildlife hospital

    Volvo Group Australia has united with Byron Bay Mobile Wildlife Hospital to aid Australia's endangered species. The collaboration involves providing a new UD Quon truck, known for its power and environmental efficiency, enabling swift emergency response to locations with injured wildlife. The partnership aims to enhance the Wildlife Hospital's capacity to rescue and care for traumatised animals, contributing to a better life for Australia's precious wildlife. Volvo Group Australia is committed to ongoing sustainability initiatives and anticipates further collaborative efforts with the Wildlife Hospital.
